Things you need to carry for the college hostel or PG.

Updated: Jun 28, 2023

Welcome back, readers :) today I am going to mention below that every stuff what's required when you get to your new college campus. I know staying away from family is kind of hard but trust me college campuses or PGs are another place for a new chapter. There is a list of things you need to see through example the weather, and the college environment before shifting.

From food to toiletry and bedding to stationery there are so many things I had to buy when I was shifting from Visakhapatnam to Bengaluru for the first time and still after carrying 4 trollies, I had to buy things in here. So, it's like a guide to help you with everything required.

Let's start with the things you need. Well, congratulations to everyone who have made it to their dream colleges and universities.

#1 - Clothes and bedding

You need to first learn about the weather conditions of the state or country, according to that you should decide the clothes you would carry. For example, in Bengaluru you would need 60% winter and rainy clothes altogether and 40% summer clothes.

Carry a minimum of 5 pairs of innerwear, 2-bed sheets, 2 pillow covers, 2 formal wear minimum, socks, and 1 white shirt. In case of pillows and mattresses are given or not you need to cross-check with maybe alumni or seniors if not you need to buy them. 1 bedsheet or rag depending on temperature as well if you are habituated. 2 towels, handkerchiefs, hat, or cap if you use any.

Remember you don't need too many clothes as it is okay to repeat the same clothes every week and also remember to read the rules and regulations of your college and college hostel as in their dress code and in case something is restricted then it's a waste to carry and weigh your luggage.

#2 - Toiletry and medicines

Carry the shampoo, soap, conditioner, brush, toothpaste, tongue cleaner, 3 soap case( body, utensil, and clothes), body wash you use, or simply order online, or maybe you can buy one from a nearby store if any. Scrubber or what else you use for your body, face, and hair. Don't forget to carry your regular medicines in case you are allergic to something or have sinuses and migraines, other than that carry loose motion, headache, stomach pain, vomiting, and ores. Don't forget laundry detergent or liquid and a scrubber for utensils as well as clothes because not every hostel has washing machines.

" Health is wealth "

#3 - Culinary

You must carry 1 plate, 1 bowl, 3 boxes or more containers, 1 knife, 1 peeler, 1 fork, 1 spoon, 1 glass or mug (you can choose to carry both), and 2 water bottles. Now you may buy a toaster or sandwich maker or induction or kettle (best option), but you need to check the strictness of your hostel and hide it well so better to buy once you move in. The reason why I said you need to buy it sooner or later is because hostel food isn't always eatable so you might make something.

I will soon write a blog on what you can eat in a hostel. Well, don't forget to carry some of your favorite home snacks and sweets.

#4 - Stationery

Being a commerce student, I needed my 11th and 12th textbooks, but you might also simply ask your parents to send a courier if it weighs extra after the rest of the luggage or maybe you don't need it at all. A pouch which you might fill with some blue pens, 2 pencils or 1 pen pencil, a personal diary, calculator, scale, and notebooks (after reaching campus). Well, if you are a student like me who writes, reads novels or sketches, and paint carry the materials required.

#5 - Miscellaneous

Hair clips and bands, hooks and ropes for clothes, a door mat (near your bed), a laptop and phone with chargers, 1 laptop bag, 1 school bag, cosmetics you use, a brush stand, and cloth clips. perfumes. jewelry, iron, ghee, shoe polish, chargeable light, laundry bag, watch, a small idol of God or pictures, 2-3 posters, purse and handbag, shoes and heels, door locks and luggage locks, air-tight containers, 1 bucket, and mug, newspapers, sticky hooks, extension board, comb, shaving kit, 1 Volini spray or cream, sanitary pads, earbuds, earphones or headphones, always have food in stock if allowed, moisturizer, safety pins, scissors, mosquito repellent, and band-aids.

Don't worry you will have a great time with your roommate, it does take some time to get along, but he/she will end up being closed on campus.

Well, I have mentioned every single thing that's required to stay in a hostel. You can add other stuff based on your requirements and desire.

Happy packing! Happy journey!
